4 Simple things you can do now for your health!

Improving your health is actually easier than you might think, especially if you take small steps every day toward the healthy lifestyle you want to live.  Here are 4 simple suggestions that you can do RIGHT NOW without joining a gym, hiring a personal trainer, drastically changing your diet or taking a handful of supplements.  Check it out: you can do these 4 simple things no matter where you are and no matter what else you are doing!

1.  Take 3 deep breaths.  When you are under chronic stress, the muscles of the chest wall contract and tighten, causing you to take shallow, rapid breaths.  Simply reminding yourself throughout the day to take long, slow breaths can help reduce stress, lessen headaches and lower blood pressure, plus clear your mind and improve your focus.  Simple!  Read more...

2.  Drink a glass of water.  Our sensation of thirst often lags behind our need for water, so many of us are chronically dehydrated.  Consciously drinking extra water during the day can help improve muscle functioning, regulate metabolism, alleviate constipation, increase mental alertness, and even help with weight loss!  Try it!

3.  Laugh.  Laughter strengthens the immune system, lowers stress hormone levels, eases anxiety  and can even help protect the heart by improving blood flow!  Laugh freely whenever you can and look for the humorous moments in your day.  Life is actually full of humor when you pay attention.  Read a story about laughter in the face of tragedy.

4.  Say "Thank You."  The simple practice of expressing gratitude can lead to more positive moods, better sleep, higher levels of life satisfaction and more successful attainment of goals.  Every day, remember to say "Thank you" to the people around you for small favors and kindnesses.  Right now, think of one thing you are grateful for, no matter how bad or negative your day seems.  Read more...
