Where was God on 9/11?

As we look back to that fateful September day a decade ago that changed our world forever, each of us is able to recall exactly where we were and what we were doing when the tragedy unfolded. Indelibly etched upon our souls is the memory of the Twin Towers crashing to the ground while we were experiencing within us the disintegration of the twin beliefs behind our quintessential American swagger: that this country is infallible and invincible.

What if the world came to an end and no one noticed?

While driving past the Shell gas station in my hometown of Silverthorne, Colorado a few days ago I noticed an unusual sight: four identical motor-homes were lined up side-by-side, refueling for the long journey ahead. Each of them bore enormous banners on three sides that read:

It was all going to be so perfect: a bad-boy quarterback gets caught, pays his dues, returns to the game washed clean of his transgression and goes on to win the Superbowl as proof of his redemption. Create your own healthcare reform!

     Whether or not Congress manages to pass a healthcare reform bill that improves the health of our nation, we as individuals need to take responsibility for own health and make changes that will create well-being and vitality, lessening the chance that we will need to engage the healthcare system.  Since I'm a physician, you probably think I'm going to suggest that you eat a healthy diet and get more exercise (both of which are good ideas) but I actually have something ...
